Correspondence : with Elias Boudinot, 1779.

An ALS by Stewart to Boudinot, the commissary general of prisoners, Princeton, 24 March, appealing for his exchange. He writes that he believes his alternate has misbehaved during a former parole and that the exchange will not be allowed. On the inner two pages Boudinot has drafted his reply (AL, Elizabeth Town, 30 March) that he has no information of the misbehavior of the American and that his only crime is that he is a zealous friend to his country. (AL, Elizabeth Town, 30 March).
